GooD HooD is a Washington DC based Hip-Hop group comprised of Roger “Deuce” Brown and Sab’rey Smith. Harnessing the power of the internet and social networking to connect with producers and other artists from across the globe, GooD HooD's style has rapidly evolved and continues to do so. By blending their lyrical prowess with the creativity of a diverse range of progressive, worldly composers, they are developing a new sound using innovation and experimentation as their blueprint.
GooD HooD was born in Evanston, Illinois when Roger Brown and Sab’rey Smith met in elementary school. They didn’t start making music together until middle school and from that point on they never stopped. When Brown moved to Washington DC to start college at American University, Smith went to Northern Illinois University in Rockford. Both always stayed heavily involved with music but in 2005, Sab'rey moved to Washington DC to join Deuce in a new unique venture, GooD HooD.
Inspired by hip-hop, reggae, soul and international music from all over the world, GooD HooD’s music captures the feelings from all these genres. From the rapid-fire style of rap of Twista to the spirit, power and politics of Bob Marley, to the deep soulful feeling of Marvin Gaye, to the unparalleled lyrics of Jay Z, Tupac, Biggie and Nas, GooD HooD incorporates the inspiration from these artists while integrating their own unique style.
Experienced showmen, GooD HooD has opened for Do or Die, Little Brother, Akir, & Fort Minor. They have performed at Chicago's historic Bud Billiken Parade, the Washington Park Afro-Caribbean Festival of Life, DC Carnival, and the Baltimore Music Conference as well as at the Congress Theater, U.S. Beer Company, Bill's Blues Bar, The BooCoo, Pure, Nation, and numerous showcases in Chicago, D.C., and New York. Their music has been featured in the independent films "Signage" and "Elite" as well as on multiple mixtapes and compilation albums.
Their most recent accomplishments include the release of the music video for their hit single, Rock Steady, and having their song "Break a Leg" featured in the Puerto Rican independent film, "Elite." They are currently working on an upcoming EP.
